EXPLORE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE

What Should I Look for in Sound Attenuation Batt Insulation?

When evaluating sound attenuation batt insulation, important considerations include density, acoustic performance, thermal resistance, moisture management, and ease of installation. Denser insulation materials generally absorb and reduce airborne sound more effectively than lower-density alternatives. In addition to helping control noise transfer between rooms and floors, high-performance batt insulation can contribute to thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Wood fiber batt insulation provides sound absorption, thermal performance, and vapor-open moisture management, making it suitable for residential and commercial applications where occupant comfort is a priority.

Fire-Resistant

Achieves ASTM E84 Class A for flame and smoke spread through the use of liquid borate, which saturates the wood fiber and provides a superior long-term solution for fire, bug, and moisture/mold resistance.

High Thermal Performance

All-season thermal storage and draft reduction meets Passive House, LEED, and energy stretch code targets.

Acoustic Comfort

Excellent sound absorption supports privacy and comfort in multifamily and commercial interiors.

Lowers Carbon Footprints

Wood fiber insulation naturally stores atmospheric carbon throughout its entire lifecycle, lowering the carbon footprint of the built environment.

Vapor-Open

Provides wind-tight and water-resistant performance that repels moisture without trapping humidity, reducing the potential for mold, rot, or condensation and improving indoor air quality.

Safe to Handle

Itch-free and has no VOCs, formaldehyde, or added toxins. Declare labeled and Red List Free.

Project Highlight

Willsboro, New York

The Schmid Residence

The Schmid Residence is a renovation of the historic Paine House on Lake Champlain–one of only 12 residential glass houses in the United States. Designed in 1949 by architect Philip Johnson with Landis Gores, and inspired by Johnson’s own Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, the property spans 20 acres with 850 feet of lakefront. Sawteeth Carpentry and architecture firm TruexCullins used TimberBatt 3.5″ Acoustic insulation for the interior walls.

Applications

TimberBatt insulation is suitable for a range of assemblies and for use in both retrofit and new construction projects.

Installation

TimberBatt insulation is designed for ease of use on site.
Easy to install with a friction-fit design that maintains durability and stability in cavities with no slumping over time, and resists settling, sagging, and deformation in wall and roof assemblies. Cuts easily with a handsaw or insulation knife.

  • Cut to fit with hand saw or insulation knife
  • Glove-free install; no itchy fibers
  • Friction-fit between studs, rafters, and joists
  • Compatible with vapor-variable membranes and other vapor-open assemblies
